Should you get Invisalign or braces? It’s really hard to choose which orthodontic aligners are right for your mouth and budget. Most people know the pros and cons of braces, but what are the pros and cons of Invisalign? (If you want to brush up on your Invisalign knowledge before reading this post, then check out the Invisalign page and the Invisalign Teen page of our website.) While the list of Invisalign pros and cons varies from person to person, here are the best and worst parts of having Invisalign.

Invisalign Pros and Cons

Pros

You can brush your teeth and eat as normal.

You can remove your aligners to eat, drink, brush, and floss. With traditional metal braces, you have to cut out certain foods that can damage your brackets. It’s really convenient to just pop your Invisalign aligners out, eat or brush as normal, and put them back in. It makes for a healthier mouth and cleaner eating.

You can take them out when you play sports.

With braces, you either have to get a special mouthguard or risk cutting your mouth on your brackets. You can take your Invisalign out for a couple of hours a day if you need to, which makes playing sports safer. You can simply remove your aligners for games or practices and wear a traditional mouthguard. Invisalign is safer, easier, and more comfortable for sports and activities.

It’s virtually invisible.

Invisalign is nearly invisible when it’s in someone’s mouth. The clear trays are fitted perfectly to your teeth you can’t see them unless you look really closely. No more smiling with your mouth closed to hide your braces. (You shouldn’t do that anyway. Show off your braces smile!) In pictures the Invisalign trays are invisible. You could even wear them for your wedding or prom without anyone knowing.

Invisalign is more comfortable than traditional braces.

No metal, no brackets, no glue, no rubber bands, no springs, no wax. Just smooth plastic trays that don’t cause pain. Don’t get us wrong; they will make your teeth sore as they straighten them out. But they won’t scratch up the inside of your mouth. Invisalign pros and cons should help you decide whether or not you should get Invisalign. Read on to see what the cons are.

Invisalign Pros and Cons

Cons

You have to take them out in public sometimes.

You must remove your aligners to eat, drink, brush, and floss. This is really convenient… until you’re at the dinner table with friends and you have to pull your trays out. This is easily fixed with a quick trip to the bathroom or a napkin over your face. But it can be a little awkward.

Invisalign pros and cons: Invisalign cannot treat everything.

Invisalign works for almost everyone, but there are some issues only traditional braces can fix. It’s perfect for those with crowded teeth, overbites or underbites, or gaps. Traditional braces might be necessary for those with deep overbites or severely rotated teeth. It can treat some severe cases, though. Talk to your orthodontist and they can let you know if Invisalign is an option for you.

It might make you talk differently.

Some people speak differently with Invisalign in. Once you get used to wearing the aligners your voice will be totally normal. The plastic trays surround your teeth, and when you speak your tongue is touching plastic instead of your teeth. It just takes a little adjusting.
